🤖 AI Ethics Policy
Ensuring responsible, transparent, and inclusive use of AI in education and family support.
At Poppy’s Tutoring Company, we believe that technology should serve people — not the other way around. As we explore and integrate AI tools to enhance learning, communication, and operational efficiency, we commit to the following ethical principles:
Last modified: 1 September 2025
⚖️ 1. Bias Awareness & Mitigation
• We recognise that AI systems can reflect and amplify biases present in training data or design.
• We actively seek tools and partners that demonstrate efforts to reduce bias — including inclusive datasets, diverse development teams, and fairness-aware algorithms.
• We regularly review AI outputs (e.g. tutor matching, learning recommendations) to ensure they do not disadvantage any student based on race, gender, neurodiversity, socioeconomic background, or other protected characteristics.
🔍
2. Explainability & Transparency
• We only use AI tools that offer clear, understandable reasoning behind their outputs or decisions.
• Families and tutors have the right to ask how AI-supported decisions (e.g. learning pathways, scheduling suggestions) were made.
• We avoid “black box” systems that cannot be explained or challenged, especially in sensitive areas like student progress or safeguarding.
📊 3. Data Fairness & Protection
• We ensure that all data used by AI systems is collected ethically, with informed consent and clear purpose.
• We do not use student data to train external AI models unless explicitly agreed with families.
• We prioritise tools that allow for data minimisation, secure storage, and user control over personal information.
🌿 Our Ongoing Commitment
• We will continue to educate ourselves and our team on best practices in ethical AI use.
• We welcome feedback from families, tutors, and partners to help us refine our approach.
• We believe that AI should enhance — not replace — human connection, empathy, and professional judgment.
4. Policy Updates
We review this policy annually and in response to legal or operational changes. Any significant updates will be clearly communicated.
Next review due: 1 September 2026
